Artwork description: This artwork is a self portrait through which Cameron reflects on visions from the future and memories that have not yet been made, despite seeming vivid. It is also a reflection, through the colours, materials and subject, on memories and what can hold them. The blue reminds us of water, which holds memories through waves, while the hammered brass holds memories in the ways it is bent and shaped, the bodies also act as archives of memory. Blue and gold as the dominant colours, as well as the figures’ postures, are inspired by church painting iconography around which Cameron grew up in Austria. The brass is drawn from brass and bronze sculptures in the cityscape in Benin city, Nigeria, drawing further from the artist’s heritage. The work itself acts as a bearer of memories, personal and ancestral, physical and ethereal.
